God tells Moses to ascend the mountain. God pronounces the Ten Commandments (the Ethical Decalogue) while in the hearing of all Israel. Moses goes up the mountain in to the existence of God, who pronounces the Covenant Code of ritual and civil legislation and promises Canaan to them should they obey. Moses comes down in the mountain and writes down
